Who is our H2 Physics tuition for?

Students who are struggling
You've dropped from O Level grades and need concepts explained clearly, patiently and from the ground up.
Students who are doing fine but want an A
You need sharper answering technique, harder practice and someone to spot the marks you're still leaving behind.
JC2 students heading into promos, prelims or the A Levels
You want focused exam practice on the papers and question types that cost the most marks.
Students who learn better in small groups
You want a tutor who checks on you every lesson, not a lecture hall.

What H2 Physics actually tests

H2 is a big step up from O Level. Memorising stops working: you have to explain unfamiliar situations, read data you've never seen, and link chapters, like using energy conservation inside a circular motion or field question.

How A Level H2 Physics (9478) is assessed, and how we prepare you

School candidates sit all 4 papers of the H2 Physics syllabus 9478, which was first examined in 2026 and replaces syllabus 9749 for school candidates.

NEWWhat's new in the 9478 H2 Physics syllabus

Capacitance
Capacitors charging and discharging through a resistor, and the energy stored.
Wavefunctions
Ψ, the particle in a box, energy levels and the uncertainty principle.
Spreadsheet skills
Paper 4 now asks you to process data and plot graphs in a spreadsheet.

Where JC students lose marks

1
Multiple choice traps
Options are built around common misconceptions. Students who rush or rely on half-remembered formulas pick the trap answer.
2
Data-based questions
Unfamiliar graphs and tables, where marks go to reading the data carefully and stating clear, justified conclusions.
3
Explanations that don't link cause to effect
A correct idea stated vaguely often earns nothing. Examiners look for the precise physics reasoning, step by step.
4
Definitions that are almost right
H2 definitions are marked on exact wording, so "nearly correct" loses the mark.
5
The Paper 4 practical
Recording data to the right precision, presenting graphs properly, the planning question where you design an experiment of your own, and now processing data in a spreadsheet.
6
Running out of time
Long structured papers punish students who haven't practised under real timing.

A Level Physics topics where marks slip most often

Mechanics
Resolving forces and moments, projectile motion, conservation of momentum in elastic and inelastic collisions, and centripetal force in circular motion.
Gravitational and electric fields
Confusing field strength with potential, and gravitational potential energy with electric potential energy, especially the signs.
Oscillations and waves
The defining equation of simple harmonic motion (a = −ω²x), phase difference, stationary waves, diffraction and the diffraction grating, and two-source interference.
Thermal physics
The ideal gas equation, internal energy, and the sign convention in the first law of thermodynamics (∆U = Q + W).
Electricity and magnetism
Kirchhoff's laws and potential dividers, capacitors in series and parallel, the force on a current-carrying conductor, and the direction given by Faraday's and Lenz's laws.
Modern physics
The photoelectric effect and threshold frequency, de Broglie wavelength, energy levels and line spectra, half-life, and binding energy per nucleon in fission and fusion.

How our H2 classes run

  1. 1
    Small groups
Tutors check on every student, not just teach at the room.
  2. 2
    TGC's own notes
Built around where JC students lose marks, not generic assessment books.
  3. 3
    Topic first, then mixed
Each topic taught properly, then combined the way the real paper does.
  4. 4
    Demos and real-life examples
To make fields, oscillations and quantum physics click.

JC1 or JC2: when to start

JC1: the best time to start
The jump from O Level is steepest here, and early gaps in kinematics, forces and energy carry into every later chapter.
JC2: still plenty of time
Before promos or prelims, we focus on exam technique, timed practice and your weakest chapters.

What you get as a TGC student

  • TGC's own H2 notes. Worked examples, summary sheets and MCQ practice built around where JC students lose marks.
  • Support outside of class. Questions don't have to wait until the next lesson.
  • Crash courses before major exams. Focused revision when it matters most.
  • Free H2 cheatsheets. One for every chapter, with formulas, exam traps and a worked example.
  • Student perks. Discounts at partner merchants, and a referral reward of up to $110 when you invite friends.
  • Snacks every lesson. Students keep mentioning them in their reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Is H2 Physics tuition worth it in JC1?+

For many students, yes. JC1 is where the jump from O Level is biggest, and early chapters like kinematics, forces and energy underpin almost everything later. Getting those right in JC1 makes JC2 revision far less stressful.

How do I go from a C to an A in H2 Physics?+

Usually by fixing a few specific things rather than studying everything harder: learning definitions word for word, practising explanations that link cause to effect, getting comfortable with unfamiliar data questions, and doing full papers under timed conditions. Small groups help because a tutor can spot exactly which of these is costing you marks.

What's the difference between H1 and H2 Physics?+

H2 Physics (syllabus 9478) covers 6 sections and is assessed over 4 papers, including the Paper 4 practical. H1 Physics (syllabus 8867) leaves out the Waves and Thermal Physics sections and is assessed over 2 papers: Multiple Choice (33%) and Structured Questions (67%), with no practical paper. We teach both.

What is the current A Level H2 Physics syllabus code?+

The current H2 Physics syllabus is 9478, first examined in 2026. It replaces syllabus 9749 for school candidates (9749 was examined for the last time in 2026, for private candidates) and adds capacitance, wavefunctions and spreadsheet skills for the Paper 4 practical.

When should I start H2 Physics tuition for the A Levels?+

The earlier the better, ideally in JC1. Students joining in JC2 can still improve a lot, with the focus on exam technique and the chapters costing them the most marks.

Do you teach H1 Physics as well as H2?+

Yes. Classes cover both H1 Physics (8867) and H2 Physics (9478) for JC1 and JC2 students.

Which TGC centres teach H2 Physics?+

All 3 centres, Potong Pasir, Bukit Timah and Bishan, teach A-Level H2 Physics.

How small are the class sizes?+

Classes stay small by design, so every student gets checked on individually, not just taught at as part of a large group.

Can I try a lesson before signing up?+

Yes. Sign up for a trial lesson using the button on this page, or WhatsApp +65 8920 0792, and we'll arrange it at the centre that suits you.

Do you run H2 Physics crash courses?+

Yes. We run crash courses ahead of major exams for focused revision. Current sessions are listed on our crash course sign-up page.

Is there a referral reward?+

Yes. You can earn up to $110 when you invite friends to join TGC.

How do I book a trial lesson?+
